Midnight Bisou Penciled In for Fleur de Lis

Bloom Racing Stable LLC, Madaket Stables and Allen Racing LLC's Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute), last seen finishing a bang-up second in the inaugural $20-million Saudi Cup in Riyadh Feb. 29, is tentatively scheduled to resume the American portion of her career in the GII Fleur de Lis S. at Churchill Downs June 27. The 5-year-old mare worked five furlongs in a leisurely 1:02.80 at Keeneland Friday, May 15, before vanning to Churchill Downs over the weekend. "All of her breezes up until the other day were designed to get some...

Owners Who Finished Behind Maximum Security Want Him DQd

The owners of Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute) released a statement Wednesday saying they expect Maximum Security (New Year's Day) to be disqualified from all his races, which would include the $20-million Saudi Cup. If so, Midnight Bisou would be placed first in the race. Bob Donaldson, the owner of Spun to Run (Hard Spun), who was second behind Maximum Security in the GI Cigar Mile H., also weighed in, saying he wants the New York Gaming Association to disqualify Maximum Security from that race. Americans Look Tough in the Saudi Cup

A stellar group of international talent has been assembled for the inaugural $20-million Saudi Cup over 1800 meters at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh Saturday, with a quintet of impressive American contenders. After launching 2019 with a score in the one-mile Stymie S. last March, the chestnut was fourth in the seven-panel GI Carter H., but showed his obvious affinity for the added yardage with a 3/4-length win over Gift Box...

Consistent and uniform drug policies, rules, and procedures across all racing jurisdictions would be my focal point for what we should aim to achieve in 2020. It's imperative that all of the industry participants who are racing across the country have a clear understanding of what the protocols are, both from a training standpoint and for race day. However, this tends to be quite different depending upon which location a given horse is racing or training at on a certain day. It creates a lot of confusion, potential for mistakes,...

'Henley' Fits Perfectly in Turf Trinity

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY--Back when the New York Racing Association announced its bold new initiative for 3-year-old turf horses in the summer, a trio of big-money events dubbed the "Turf Trinity," many quipped that it would quickly be reconsidered as the "Chad Brown Trinity", due to the perennial leading trainer's particular dominance with grass horses. It only took one race in the series, however, to throw a wrench in that assumption, as longshot Henley's Joy (Kitten's Joy) upset the Belmont Derby at over 20-1 for Jeff Bloom's Bloom Racing Stable and...
