Jim Lawson, a long-time Thoroughbred owner and current CEO of Woodbine Entertainment, has pledged to personally match all donations, up to $15,000, as part of the “Join Jim” Christmas donation drive, which will kick off on LongRun Day at the Races at Woodbine Saturday and run through Dec. 31. Donations can also be made online at www.longrunretirement.com.

“I have long been an admirer of the work that LongRun does to look after retired racehorses,” said Lawson. “LongRun started a successful matching campaign last year and hopefully it will serve as a good kick-starter again this season to get them the funding they need and deserve.”

Racegoers can learn more about LongRun and its retired racehorses at their booth located on the second floor of the grandstand Saturday.

“Please think of donating in someone's name as a holiday gift– LongRun will provide your loved one or friend with a gift letter and a colourful LongRun 2020 graduate calendar,” said Vicki Pappas, board chair and founding member of LongRun. “With over 50 retired racehorses currently under LongRun's care, we can't tell you how much we appreciate Jim Lawson's incredible gesture and how mu ch LongRun will appreciate any help you might care to give us as well.”

LongRun will also be selling Christmas cards, hoodies, t-shirts and baseball caps with proceeds going to help Ontario's retired Thoroughbreds.
