Sticking her head in front entering the far turn, the chestnut skipped clear in the lane and held off a late charge from favored fellow firster Brattata (More Than Ready) to win by 1 3/4 lengths. Chipolina is the first foal out of Classy Citizen, who failed to get back in foal to Scat Daddy the following year, but produced a colt by Into Mischief earlier this term and was bred back to the Spendthrift sire.
