Jockeys to Honor Miguel Mena Saturday

In memory of late jockey Jose Miguel Mena and to support his family, jockeys at racetracks around the country on Saturday, Nov. 13, will be wearing black armbands emblazoned with his nickname, "Cholo." Miguel Mena Dies After Being Struck by Car

Jockey Miguel Mena was killed at about 7:36 p.m. Sunday night in Louisville when struck by a car. He was 34. According to the Jefferson County Coroners Office, which released a brief statement Monday, Mena was a pedestrian on Interstate 64 West between Blankenbaker Parkway and Hurstbourne when hit. The cause of death is listed as blunt force injuries and the manner of death was listed as accidental. Funeral Services Wednesday for Steven Elzey

Funeral services for longtime jockey agent Steven Elzey will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Elzey, 64, passed away last Wednesday at his home in Tampa, Florida.
