Gangster was dismissed at odds of 21-1 for this second career start but proved more than able with a powerful four-length score, earning 'TDN Rising Star' status. The dark bay checked in fourth on debut going 6 1/2 panels at Belmont June 27. Away in good order, he dictated the pace through fractions of :23.92 and :48.79 and remained in front turning for home. Set down for the drive, he powered to the wire four lengths clear of stablemate Indian Trail (Indian Charlie). The final time for nine furlongs was 1:49.71, significantly faster than the winning time of 1:50.40 posted by Smart Transition (Smart Strike) in the Curlin S. one race earlier. The winner, a son of MGSW Miss Isella, sold for $140,000 as an FTSAUG yearling. Miss Isella has a weanling colt by Point of Entry. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $53,550.
