Street Boss Colt Continues Turf Dominance in Paradise Creek

Street Boss | Darley

Big Handsome remained perfect and untested in three starts on the grass with a first black-type success in the Paradise Creek. Placed in his first two career starts on the main track, Big Handsome was fourth in future GI Preakness S. winner Cloud Computing (Maclean's Music)'s Feb. 11 maiden win, then shipped to Florida and graduated by four in his turf bow Mar. 17. He returned to the Big Apple last time and thrashed Have Another (Stay Thirsty) by 4 ½ lengths Apr. 30.

Though he made all the running in those two previous runs, Big Handsome was happy to punch the breeze from third and fourth spot for the opening five-eighths of a mile. Roused to the front off the turn, Big Handsome quickly put a handful of lengths on his rivals and cruised home an easy winner.

“I was so impressed with him,” winning trainer Tony Dutrow commented. “I didn't think I'd see that today. I have to be feeling very good about this horse's future. I'm excited. Javier thought he would relax and stay off the pace like he did. I didn't know, he's been running so fast but Javier was confident he would listen to him and that went well.”

Big Handsome is out of a winning daughter of Carl Pollard's turf Grade III winner Kiss the Devil (Kris S.), whose daughter followed in her mother's hoofprints by annexing the GIII Mint Julep S. at Churchill Downs. Kiss the Devil's daughter Kiss Mine (Mineshaft) was a five-time stakes winner and multiple graded placed on the grass. The 29th black-type winner for his sire, Big Handsome was the most expensive of 35 Street Boss yearlings sold in 2015. He is kin to a yearling filly of this year by Hard Spun.
