Scat Daddy's Con Te Partiro Another For Ward In the Sandringham

Con Te Partiro | Racing Post

Ironically, it is the 3-year-olds who have upheld Wesley Ward's record so far this week and after the eclipse of Happy Like a Fool (Distorted Humor) in the G2 Queen Mary S. it was Con Te Partiro who stepped up to offer recompense when registering a surprise in this day two closer. Held up in last early in one of Jamie Spencer's famous waiting rides, the bay–who was last seen finishing fourth over seven furlongs in the Soaring Softly S. at Belmont on May 20–moved through rivals to reel in Rain Goddess in the final 50 yards. “That was an unbelievable ride–I wondered what he was doing for the first part of the race, but he had the magic at the end,” her trainer said. “I told him she comes from behind and left it to him. It was a fantastic ride. He did it all on his own, no instructions, he took upon himself to do that. That was crazy. She's got some antics to her and I thought he'd be the right man for the job and he was.”

Ward continued, “I'll talk it over with the owners and see what they want to do next, but I'm really excited–she was unbelievable.” Spencer added, “I galloped her last Wednesday and she wasn't left behind by her stablemates, so that was enough to make me reasonably confident. A turning flat mile at Santa Anita is a bit different to a stiff mile here, so there had to be a slight worry. I wanted to drop her in, but she flew the gates and it took me a furlong to get her covered up. I got her relaxed and let her coast over to the rail and then move into the race. We went very fast and it was just case of whether she stayed or not. I followed Ryan and he went right a furlong and a half out and I went left. I was going fairly handy at three furlongs out and I knew it was either me or Ryan [Moore]. His filly has form in Classics but mine picked up good and I am delighted with the result.”

Pedigree Notes…

Con Te Partiro, who was also runner-up in the 6 1/2-furlong Juvenile Turf Sprint S. at Santa Anita in November, is a half-sister to the Stanton S. winner Donworth, who was also second in the GIII Coolmore Lexington S. and third in the GII Charles Town Classic S. and GII San Antonio S. The dam Temple Street, who was runner-up in the GI Humana Distaff S. and third in the GII Fleur de Lis H., has been bred back to that smart colt's sire Tiznow for the past three seasons, producing a 2-year-old colt named Victory Lane, a yearling filly named Tiz Ella and a colt foal.
