CARPE OMNIOUS (c, 2, Carpe Diem–Renards Lapin, by Tiznow), the priciest of 73 yearlings by Carpe Diem to sell in 2018 when he brought $550,000 at Keeneland September, began repaying that investment as he parlayed a ground-saving trip into a first-up score. Showing an upbeat tab at Palm Beach Downs capped by a 1:01.48 spin Dec. 16 in preparation for this (XBTV Video), the bay broke slowly from the fence but quickly recovered and was scrubbed on to chase from fourth. Shuffled back slightly as he waited for room leaving the turn, the 6-1 shot continued to chip away at the leaders' edge at the head of the lane and out-kicked already stakes-placed All Eyes West (Street Sense) to get the job done by a half-length. The winner's dam is half to English highweight Lucky Story (Kris S.) and Group 1 winner Dr Fong (Kris S.). Her yearling colt by Into Mischief brought $165,000 this September. She has a weanling colt by Mshawish and was bred back to Carpe Diem (Giant's Causeway), who now has 15 winners thanks to Carpe Omnious. Sales history: $550,000 Ylg '18 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
