DEL MAR, CA – Bluehen mares Hasili (Ire) (Kahyasi {Ire}), Primal Force (Blushing Groom {Fr}) and Sweet Life (Kris S.) could have some new company after this weekend's Breeders' Cup.
Live Oak homebred Win Approval (With Approval) will be looking to add her name to that exclusive list of producers of multiple Breeders' Cup winners with the streaking World Approval (Northern Afleet), the morning-line second choice at 9-2, in Saturday's GI Breeders' Cup Mile.
The pensioned 25-year-old is also the dam of 2006 GI Breeders' Cup Mile winner Miesque's Approval (Miesque's Son), 2013 Breeders' Cup Mile runner-up and MGSW Za Approval (Ghostzapper) and MGSW Revved Up (Sultry Song). All four, including this year's aforementioned GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile S. and GI Fourstardave H. hero from the Mark Casse barn, have bankrolled seven figures.
“[Live Oak Stud owner] Mrs. [Charlotte] Weber just feels like Win Approval might be even more important to the farm than she is herself,” Live Oak General Manager Bruce Hill said. “She is the queen of Live Oak.”
Hill continued, “She's still very healthy and very independent. She doesn't want you to bring her a mint or give her an extra pat for what she's done. She's not mean or anything but would probably rather to just be left alone.”
Hasili has produced GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf winners Banks Hill (GB) (Danehill) (2001) and Intercontinental (GB) (Danehill) (2005). Primal Force is the dam of 1998 GI Breeders' Cup Classic winner Awesome Again (Deputy Minister) and 2000 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Macho Uno (Holy Bull). Sweet Life is responsible for 2004 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies victress Sweet Catomine (Storm Cat) and 2009 GI Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic heroine Life Is Sweet (Storm Cat).
“Being from Texas, I'll embellish things just a little bit,” Hill said with a laugh. “From time to time if we're giving a tour, I'll tell people that I don't know where Win Approval stands in the history books of Thoroughbred broodmares, but she's got to be in the top 10 and very well could wind up being in the top five. She's in very rare company.”
After RNA'ing for just $38,000 as a weanling at the 1992 Ocala Breeders Sales Company Fall Mixed Sale, Win Approval, a daughter of Live Oak homebred and 1976 GI Matron S. runner-up Negotiator (Hoist the Flag), carried the famed red, white and black silks to a record of 16-2-4-1 and earnings of $57,210. She immediately hit the ground running as a broodmare, however, producing Revved Up and Miesque's Approval right off the bat. She has produced four other winners.
“Mrs. Weber has finger prints all over this family,” Hill said. “There's not many people like her left. I can't imagine anything being more gratifying than to know that she's been developing and nurturing and putting something together like that for several generations. That's just the ultimate.”
