Noel Leckie Dies

Noel Leckie, chairman of Scone Race Club, died suddenly Jan. 24 aged 64. Leckie served on Scone's Committee for 23 years with more than 20 of those years spent as either vice chairman or chairman.

“Noel was one of the most conscientious and professional racing administrators I've had the pleasure of dealing with,” said Racing NSW chief executive officer Peter V'landys. “He was always passionate and a major asset to Scone Race Club.”

Among Leckie's professional achievements was pioneering Scone's two-day Scone Cup Carnival, first staged in 2011.

“Without doubt Noel's efforts landed Scone its stand-alone Saturday meeting, and it remains the only country club to have one,” V'landys added.

Leckie, who operated a chartered accountancy practice in Scone for 24 years, was also a prominent racehorse owner. He is survived by his wife Julie and children Campbell and Skye.
