NBC Sports Group and The Stronach Group have reached an agreement that gives NBC exclusive United States media rights to the second annual running of the $16-million GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park, it was announced Monday. The world's richest Thoroughbred race, slated for Jan. 27, 2018, will see a purse increase from $12 million to $16 million as a result of The Stronach Group contributing additional funds to the pot.

NBC will air a live 90-minute telecast from Gulfstream on race day.

“The Stronach Group is thrilled to be partnering with NBC to bring the 2018 Pegasus World Cup Invitational to fans across the United States,” said Belinda Stronach, Chairman and President of The Stronach Group. “We believe NBC delivers North America's best horse racing content and we look forward to collaborating to showcase this unforgettable entertainment experience.”

The inaugural running of the Pegasus, which is open to 12 entrants who each acquired $1-million shares to secure a spot in the starting gate, was won in dominant fashion by Juddmonte Farms' champion Arrogate (Unbridled's Song), who defeated a field that included the likes of 2014 and 2016 Horse of the Year California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit).
