LIFE IMITATES ART (c, 2, More Than Ready–Habiboo {MGSP, $190,190}, by Unbridled's Song) crossed the wire second but was placed first via disqualification after Barahona (More Than Ready) bore out badly in deep stretch. The juvenile rallied belatedly to finish second behind Site Read (Tizdejavu) on debut going 1 1/16 miles at Saratoga July 25. He recently showed improved speed after adding blinkers and came up a neck short of subsequent GIII Pilgrim S. winner Isotherm (Lonhro {Aus}) over that same trip at the Spa Aug. 22. Given a brief freshening after that effort, the bay removed the hood and was pounded down to 3-5 favoritism in this first appearance downstate. Taken back in the early stages, Life Imitates Art proved to be a handful for Irad Ortiz, Jr in midpack, as a rival led through a half-mile in :49.41. Life Imitates Art awaited running room on the turn, shifted out to the four path turning for home and rallied to come up a nose shy of Barahona, who was ultimately placed third after also impeding Ballagh Rocks (Stormy Atlantic). The winner's dam, who placed in three graded events and is a half-sister to MGISW Street Boss (Street Cry {Ire}), produced colts by Mineshaft in 2014 and More Than Ready in 2015. She was bred back to Bernardini. Life Imitates Art sold for $175,000 as a KEESEP yearling. Lifetime Record: 3-1-2-0, $78,200. Lifetime Record: 3-1-2-0, $78,200.
