Hard Spun Filly Scores in Off-The-Turf Tepin S.

Antoinette | Coglianese

Antoinette checked in fourth on debut over the Belmont turf Sept. 14 and earned her diploma next out by a head over that course Oct. 24. Given a 9-2 chance in this rained-off Tepin S., the bay tugged her way into mid-pack, running on the heels of the pacesetters through a first half-mile in :47.89. Slipping through a seam on the fence in early stretch, she swept clear with a sixteenth left to run and hit the line a length clear with ears pricked. Even-money favorite I Dare U, who drew in as a main track only, was the runner-up.

“She ran very well,” said Leanna Willaford, assistant to trainer Bill Mott. “She handled a bit of adversity being down inside and had to wait until it opened up and come on through, but she ran great. She's very professional in the mornings and we're proud she ran to her ability here today.”

As for what's next, she said, “She'll most likely head south [Payson Park] from here for the winter, but we'll talk to the connections and map out a game plan from there.”

Antoinette is the second foal out of UAE Highweight Shuruq, who has since produced a pair of fillies by Medaglia d'Oro and was bred back to Uncle Mo. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
