Galileo's Proud And Regal Makes All In The Tyros

Leopardstown's G3 Japan Racing Association Tyros S. had played host to three subsequent Classic-winning sons of Galileo (Ire) in the last eight years and the dream is very much alive for Donnacha O'Brien after the late great's son Proud And Regal (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) led at every step in Thursday's renewal. Off the mark on debut on yielding ground over this seven-furlong trip at The Curragh June 26, the son of Simply Perfect (GB) (Danehill) was sent forward by Gavin Ryan on this livelier surface to boss events and raced with ears pricked until asked the question turning into the straight. Ears pinned back from there, the 11-4 shot who represents Smith/Magnier/Tabor/Westerberg gave the impression he was not hard at work to register a 1 1/4-length margin over Hellsing (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}). There was a further neck back to Ballydoyle's free-going 15-8 favourite Age of Kings (Ire) (Kingman {GB}), who looked a non-stayer at the trip. “His work had improved a lot at home, but he's still raw and babyish and was so green in front,” Donnacha said. “We let him roll along in front, but he still has lots to learn. Obviously, the pattern is the [G2] Futurity or the [G1] National Stakes or both.”

Whether Proud And Regal, whose debut form had been boosted by stablemate Alder (Ire) (Australia {GB}), can follow in the footsteps of Galileo's best Tyros winners remains to be seen but he could do no more than he has thus far. The sire's future group 1 winners to win here en route are Teofilo (Ire), New Approach (Ire), Rip Van Winkle (Ire), Cape Blanco (Ire), Gleneagles (Ire), Deauville (Ire), Churchill (Ire) and Anthony Van Dyck (Ire), and of those it is possible to make early comparison with Cape Blanco, the fellow generous-striding chestnut who was so impressive in this track's Irish Champion. “He nearly went too slow for his own good, because he's so lazy in front. If he can get a lead off a strong pace, he'll be twice the horse,” the winning trainer added. “There is a lot more in there and I'd be fairly confident if something came to him he'd go on again. He's an exciting one.”

Proud And Regal is currently the last known foal out of the dam Simply Perfect, who proved a stellar performer for the Jeremy Noseda stable, winning the G1 Falmouth S. and G1 Fillies' Mile as well as the G2 May Hill S. and G2 Queen Mary S. and finishing third in the 1000 Guineas. While her 10 foals by Galileo had included the G3 International S. and Listed Eyrefield S. winner Mekong River (Ire) and the filly Simply Beautiful (Ire) who had placed in the G3 Give Thanks S., G3 Princess Royal S. and G3 Darley Pride S., Proud And Regal looks to be the first to which she has managed to transmit a large share of her high level of talent.

The winner shares his G1 Moyglare Stud S. and G1 Fillies' Mile-placed second dam Hotelgenie Dot Com (GB) (Selkirk) with Galileo's G3 Curragh Cup and G3 Vintage Crop S. winner and G1 St Leger runner-up Bondi Beach (Ire) and G3 Gallinule S. scorer and G2 Great Voltigeur S. runner-up Constantinople (Ire). Hotelgenie Dot Com's half-sister Bianca Nera (GB) (Salse) was successful in the Moyglare and the G2 Lowther S. and is the second dam of the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth S., G1 Juddmonte International S., G1 Coronation Cup and G1 Dubai Sheema Classic-winning sire Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), the G1 Premio Lydia Tesio and G2 Park Hill S. winner God Given (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) and the GIII Beverly Hills H. winner and GI Yellow Ribbon S. runner-up Turning Top (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}).
