Galileo's Capri Earns His Stakes Spurs at Tipperary

Capri, who posted a promising half-length second going seven furlongs at The Curragh in his first start July 16, broke through upped to an extended mile at Galway last time July 30, and justified odds-on favouritism in this black-type debut to register a personal best back down in trip. Sent to the front after subdued early exchanges, he dominated thereafter and kept on strongly under final-quarter urging to easily outclass his overmatched rivals. “He's a nice horse and is still a baby, but is coming forward lovely,” commented winning trainer Aidan O'Brien. “He had a lovely first run and [jockey] Seamus [Heffernan] was very happy with him at Galway [last time]. We don't have to be in a panic with him now and he is a nice-natured, solid and straightforward horse. He could have a [Aug. 21 G2] Futurity entry, a [Sept. 11 G1] National S. entry and could also have a little bit of time and go for the [Sept. 25 G2] Beresford S. and [Doncaster's Oct. 22 G1] Racing Post Trophy.” Heffernan added, “It was not ideal having to make the running on him, but he is a nice horse, and it's nice to be on him. I went a good gallop and it would have taken a good one to get past me. I knew him and I fancied him. He is just a decent horse who has plenty of ability.” The grey is the third winner, from three foals to race, out of Dialafara (Fr) (Anabaa), and follows in the hoofprints of his siblings Jamaica (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Sovereign Parade (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Dialafara, who has also produced a yearling colt by Galileo (Ire), is a winning daughter of Diamilina (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}), who annexed the G2 Prix de Malleret and G3 Prix de la Nonette as well as running second in the G1 Prix Vermeille. Diamilina is herself a daughter of G2 Prix de Malleret runner-up Diamonaka (Fr) (Akarad {Fr}) and is the dam of G3 Prix La Rochette scorer and MG1SP sire Diamond Green (Fr) (Green Desert) and two further black-type performers.
