Galileo Gold Confirmed For Jacques Le Marois

Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) is on course to continue his stellar season with a crack at Sunday's G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois in Deauville.

Having started his season in bullish fashion when becoming the first British Classic winner for Hugo Palmer in the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas, Galileo Gold has added the G1 St James's Palace S. to his repertoire, as well as finishing second in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas and, most recently, in the G1 Qatar Sussex S. at Glorious Goodwood.

“I was thrilled with his work this morning,” said Palmer on Tuesday. “It was his only piece of work between Goodwood and France. He's quite an easy horse to read and Toby Atkinson, who rides him every morning, told me yesterday that he couldn't wait for him to work as he's so fresh.”

After winning last season's G2 Qatar Vintage S., Galileo Gold went more than two months without a race before finishing third to Ultra (Ire) (Manduro {Ger}) in the G1 Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp in early October.

“He takes his racing really well and I'm conscious of the fact that it was really hard to get him fit for the Jean-Luc Lagardere, so I was quite keen for him not to go from July to October without a race again,” Palmer explained, with the later-season target of the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. in mind.

“Now that the QE2 has been moved back almost a month it would be lovely if Doncaster could put on a decent mile race during the St Leger meeting. People like to be able to see these horses run.”
