Dr. Edmund Bateman–who with his wife, Belinda, campaigned multiple Group 1 winners in Australia–died Sunday at age 73 after battling an undisclosed illness. The founder of medical center, pathology and radiology company Primary Healthcare campaigned Group 1 winners Foxwedge (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and Wandjina (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) in his colors, both of whom are now at stud. He was also a part owner of this year's G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver (Aus) (Medaglia d'Oro).

Primary Healthcare, founded in 1986, now runs 71 medical centers. The company reported a turnover of A$1.6 million for the last financial year.

Bloodstock agent James Harron, who worked closely with Bateman, tweeted Monday: “My biggest supporter, mentor and friend. Rest in peace Edmund Bateman. Thoughts and prayers for Belinda and Bateman family.”
