Dortmund, Prospect Park Work for Santa Anita Derby

Dortmund (Big Brown) and Prospect Park (Tapit), first and second respectively in Santa Anita's GII San Felipe S. Mar. 7, each worked over the local surface Saturday morning in preparation for an expected rematch in the GI Santa Anita Derby Apr. 4.

Dortmund registered a six-furlong move in company with unraced stablemate Jimbo Fallon (Midnight Lute), stopping the clock in 1:11.60 under regular rider Martin Garcia. Bob Baffert was on hand to monitor his unbeaten colt's work.

“I got him in 1:11 4/5,” commented Baffert, who added that his other Santa Anita Derby contender, One Lucky Dane, will breeze once this week prior to the race.

Meanwhile, Prospect Park worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 under Alonso Quinonez. Trainer Clifford Sise said he timed the work in 1:01 flat, with a final quarter mile of :23 2/5.

“It was a perfect work,” said Sise. “I couldn't have written it any better this morning.”

Prospect Park rallied late to finish 1 1/4 lengths behind Dortmund in the San Felipe, his stakes debut. Also probable for the Santa Anita Derby are Bolo (Temple City), Cross the Line (Line of David) and Bad Read Sanchez (Warrior's Reward).
