Dansili's Mahsoob On Top In the Earl of Sefton

Mahsoob | Racing Post

Mahsoob gained recognition early last season as the colt who managed to overcome two high draws in competitive 10-furlong handicaps at Newbury and York and there was talk of King Georges after the highly-regarded homebred had kept his unbeaten record intact in Royal Ascot's Listed Wolferton H. over the same trip in June. That mission was abandoned when he finished sixth in the G2 Princess of Wales's S. trying a mile and a half at the July meeting here and the sense of anti-climax only grew with a substandard fifth over this trip in the G3 Strensall S. at York in August. Enlivened by his winter rest, the bay was always happy tracking the pace which was partly carved out by his chief market rival Air Pilot and when slung into the “dip” by Paul Hanagan loomed large alongside. Gaining the upper hand from the furlong marker, Mahsoob asserted to win with a degree of authority and trainer John Gosden was pondering tackling a mile afterwards. “He's getting quicker with age and I'm delighted with him,” he said. “He's been training nicely at home and doing everything on his own. We won at Royal Ascot last year, but lost his form after that. He's had a good winter and I wouldn't mind bringing him back a furlong.” Mahsoob's dam, who descends from the champion Shadayid, has an unraced 3-year-old filly by Teofilo (Ire) named Moqla (GB), a 2-year-old filly by Dansili (GB) named Madeenaty (Ire) and a yearling filly by Sea the Stars (Ire).
