Creative Cause Filly Upsets Saratoga's Seeking the Ante S.

Cause We Are Loyal | Sarah Andrew

Cause We Are Loyal, a debut third behind the promising 'TDN Rising Star' Saudi Chroma (Lucky Pulpit) at Santa Anita May 25, returned to earn her diploma by 8 1/4 lengths at Los Alamitos July 15. Taking on New York-bred company for the first time in this stakes debut, she chased in midpack while racing in striking distance through fractions of :22.10 and :46.16. She began to come alive while gaining ground on the outside into third off the turn for home and rolled down the center of the course in the stretch to get the money. Fellow Southern California shipper Newport Breeze, a Del Mar maiden winner at second asking July 23, ran a big race to re-rally and finish a close second after backing up sharply on the far turn.

“We are so happy, and this is such an honest filly,” winning trainer Doug O'Neill said. “But you never know with a 2-year-old filly shipping this far. She was showing us all the signs that she was going to run a big race, but you never know until they do it. She held her form and I thought Mario [Gutierrez] gave her a great ride. I'm just over the moon and am so happy. My brother, Dennis, liked her at the sale and liked her pedigree and mentioned it to Paul [Reddam], and Paul liked her as well and didn't really look at her as a New York-bred, or a Kentucky-bred or a Cal-bred. He just looked at her as an individual. Paul wrote the check and here we are.”

He continued, “Paul has some New York-breds with Mark Hennig. I don't know if we'll take her back to California and run her back against open company, we'll have to put our heads together and see whatcomes out of it. Obviously, she's the most important one so she'll tell us. There are a lot of options for her.”

The winner's dam had a Posse colt last year and a colt by Goldencents earlier this spring. She was bred back to Speightster.
