Jupiter Gold (Aus) (Congrats), sent off as one of three joint favorites at odds of 13-5 in the third leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe Series for juveniles May 22, came from a near-impossible position to remain perfect in his two career starts. An A$130,000 graduate of the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the ridgling rallied from well back in the field to open his account at first asking Apr. 10 and was forced to deal from the widest alley in this field of 12. Trapped out very deep from the outset, Jupiter Gold improved into midfield entering the turn, but was flushed about seven wide into the lane. The leaders got a break, but the handsome brown colt came with a determined rally into the final furlong, struck to the front with about 100 metres to race and kicked home to score by 1 1/2 impressive lengths (video). “He needs more distance and the 1200m trip will be even better for him,” commented winning trainer Hideyuki Takaoka. “He will run in one more Leg and then the big race [S$325,000 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe S. 1200mT, July 8]. Last time, he got checked at the start and settled at the rear, but this time I told the jockey to ride him closer to the pace. It was not an easy race for him, but he showed he was a really good horse today.” The winner's dam, acquired by Vinery Stud in foal to Congrats for A$90,000 at the 2012 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale, produced a filly by Big Brown in 2014 and a colt by Vinery's Casino Prince (Aus) last October. Jupiter Gold hails from the extended female family of the legendary Takeover Target (Aus) (Celtic Swing {GB}). @EquinealTDN
