Unbeaten Bolt d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) worked five furlongs in company Sunday at Santa Anita in preparation for Saturday's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, completing the drill in 1:02.20 (28/59) under regular rider Corey Nakatani.
“He looked perfect,” said owner/trainer Mick Ruis, who watched Bolt's work along with his wife and co-owner, Wendy. “His stride looked good. I just wanted to give him a little air today and then bring him into the race just where he is right now. He worked in company with Midnight Harbor (Midnight Lute), who we used as gauge. [Juan] Ochoa has a really good clock in his head and we were hoping to get about a minute flat for Bolt. Corey didn't really move on him. He looked really, really good.”
Bolt d'Oro is coming off a 7 3/4-length romp in the Sept. 30 GI FrontRunner S.
Other Breeders' Cup contenders working at Santa Anita Sunday included:
• Mor Spirit (Eskendereya) (Dirt Mile) worked six furlongs from the gate in a bullet 1:13.40 (1/7). It was the 4-year-old's sixth straight time working from the gate. “It has nothing to do with how he breaks in a race,” trainer Bob Baffert said of the gate works. “He's always been sort of a lazy work horse, and working from the gate, he gets a lot more out of it. I was really happy with his breeze and I feel really good about the way he's training.”
• West Coast (Flatter) (Classic) went five furlongs in 1:00.40 (5/59).
• Cupid (Tapit) (Dirt Mile) went five furlongs in 1:00.40 (5/59).
• Solomini (Curlin) (Juvenile) went five furlongs in 1:01 flat (9/59).
• Midnight Storm (Pioneerof the Nile) (Dirt Mile) went four furlongs in :48.40 (6/47).
• Ransom the Moon (Malibu Moon) (Sprint) went four furlongs in a bullet :47 flat (1/47).
Working over the turf at Del Mar Sunday:
• GI Breeders' Cup Turf hopeful Oscar Performance (Kitten's Joy) worked a half-mile in :47 flat (3/11).
“He went as comfortable as a horse could work,” trainer Brian Lynch told Gary Yunt of the Breeders' Cup notes team. “The way he did it, I thought he went in :49. It was quicker than his work last week at Keeneland [4f, :51.40]. The main work was done last week at Keeneland and this was very good as well.”
• Cambodia (War Front) (F/M Turf) worked five furlongs in 1:01.40 (1/2).
• Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy) (Turf Sprint) went four furlongs in :48.60 (8/11).
• Catholic Boy (More Than Ready) (Juv Turf) worked four furlongs in :47.80 (6/11).
• War Flag (War Front) (F/M Turf) worked five furlongs in 1:03.20 (2/2).
• Hunt (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) (Turf) worked six furlongs in 1:14.80 (1/1).
• Birdie Gold (Birdstone) (F/M Turf) worked four furlongs in :49.60 (11/11).
• Om (Munnings) (Mile) went three furlongs in :35.20 (1/6).
