Autumn Sale Closes With Gains

Ian Williams | Goffs UK

Goffs UK's two-day Autumn Sale of yearlings and horses-in-training wrapped up on Tuesday with the horses-in-training session, which posted figures well up on last year. A total of 313 horses went through the ring, with 237 sold for £2,151,100 at a buyback rate of 24.3%, down 13 points from last year, when 190 were sold for £1,364,200 at a buyback rate of 37.5%. This year's average of £9,076 was up 26%, while the median was up 25% at £5,000.

Godolphin's 32-horse draft provided the highest-priced lot of the day. Wolfcatcher (Ire) (King's Best) (lot 307), a three-time winning 4-year-old gelding, topped trade when selling to Ian Williams for £78,000. Friarstown Stables' 2-year-old gelding Catch A Wave (Ire) (Approve {Ire}) (lot 281), a last-out winner, was the second-most expensive seller of the day, fetching £70,000 from Debbie Mountian.

“Today's horses-in-training sale proved, yet again, that we will return outstanding prices for this category when we have the horses to promote, as we have enjoyed a lively trade for the wide variety of flat and National Hunt horses offered, none more so than the large Godolphin draft and several of the point-to-pointers that traveled across from Ireland,” said Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby. “Indeed, the sale was attended by a large crowd of buyers from home and abroad leading to multiple bidders on countless lots throughout the day.”
