Admire Rakti Dies Following Melbourne Cup

Details are limited at this point, but Japan's Admire Rakti (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}) has reportedly collapsed and died following Tuesday (Australian time)'s G1 Melbourne Cup. Winner of the G1 Caulfield Cup, Admire Rakti was sent off the favorite in the 3200-meter event and raced handy to the pace, but dropped back abruptly with about a quarter-mile left. He was effectively eased across the line by Zac Purton†and finished the course before being stricken back at the stables. Further details as they become available.
