Zenyatta Or Spinster for Tara's Tango

'TDN Rising Star' Tara's Tango (Unbridled's Song) will make her next appearance in either the GI Zenyatta S. at Santa Anita Oct. 1 or in the GI Juddmonte Spinster S. at Keeneland Oct. 9, assistant trainer Dan Ward said Wednesday. The latter scenario would allow the 4-year-old filly to avoid locking horns with divisional leaders Beholder (Henny Hughes) and Stellar Wind (Curlin) in the Zenyatta.

“She's going to run in one or the other,” Ward offered Wednesday morning. “It would be easier for her to run in the Spinster than it would against Beholder and Stellar Wind here, that's for sure, so it's a possibility even though she'd have to ship. She's training well.”

A homebred for Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Stables, Tara's Tango led home a Rising Star one-two when besting the now-retired Taris (Flatter) in the GI Santa Margarita S. Mar. 19, then was third to Forever Unbridled (Unbridled's Song) in Oaklawn's GI Apple Blossom H. the following month. She most recently cut back to 6 1/2 furlongs and posted a half-length success in the GIII Rancho Bernardo H. at Del Mar Aug. 17. Stonestreet also campaigns another Rising Star in the form of Cavorting (Bernardini), who is being pointed towards the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff Nov. 4. That leaves open the possibility of a start in the GI Filly & Mare Sprint for Tara's Tango.
