Varian Sweet On Postponed

Postponed | Racing Post

Roger Varian is very much looking forward to seeing Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in action again, as he prepares him for a repeat win in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot July 23. The 5-year-old scraped home by a nose in the race last year from Eagle Top (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), but is arguably a better horse this year judged on his latest impressive G1 victories in the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan in March and more recently in the G1 Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom.

“He seems to be a horse in his prime and we're delighted to have him,” said Varian. “The King George fits nicely timing-wise. It gives us a little break now and plenty of time to get him to the race, which is very much the plan.”

Postponed won't be short of opponents given he prestige of the race and Aidan O'Brien already has the race in mind for Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The full-brother to 'TDN Rising Star' Idaho (Ire) made an encouraging European seasonal debut when narrowly beaten by The Queen's Dartmouth (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot and is already a dual Grade 1 winner. “We could aim him at the King George,” O'Brien commented. “He likes good ground and the race there should suit him.”
