WinStar Farm homebred Speightster--produced by a full sister to the brilliant Dance Smartly (Danzig) and a half-sister to leading sire Smart Strike (Mr. Prospector)-- showed an upbeat worktab for Hall of Famer Bill Mott, including a bullet three-furlong move in :35 at Keeneland Apr. 13 (1/14). Drawn on the fence here, the 5-1 chance was hustled to the front and forced the early issue from second after being guided to the outside of pacesetter Sir Alfred (Munnings). The chestnut made a bold run to challenge for command on the far turn, took over while confidently handled by Jose Lezcano at the top of the lane and drew off nicely to graduate by seven lengths. Sir Alfred stayed on for second. Speightster is a half-brother to fellow ‘TDN Rising Star' West Coast Swing (Gone West), SW & GSP, $175,827; and Paiota Falls (Kris S.), SW, $177,354. The unraced mare Dance Swiftly brought $2.4 million from Bloodstock Advisory while in foal to Gone West at the 1999 KEENOV sale. The 20-year-old produced a Speightstown colt in 2013; a Bodemeister colt in 2014; and slipped in 2015. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $34,800.
