Lone Star '22 Season Opens April 28

Lone Star Park's 2022 Thoroughbred racing season will begin Apr. 28 and, with 48 live racing days, will conclude July 24. The season will include 21 stakes worth a combined  $2,825,000--a $600,000 increase from the 2021 stakes schedule. Texas Summer Yearling Sale Posts Across-the-Board Gains

Monday's Texas Summer Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie recorded sizable increases in gross sales, average and median with a Texas-bred colt by Too Much Bling topping the auction at $175,000. A total of 228 yearlings went through the ring with 176 selling for $3,219,600, a 138.9% percent increase from last year when 106 of 137 sold for $1,347,700. TTA Adds Derby and Oaks

The Texas Thoroughbred Association stakes series will now include a TTA Derby and Oaks, it was announced Tuesday. The new TTA stakes schedule will offer purses totaling more than $500,000 and is restricted to graduates of the Texas Summer Yearling Sale Aug. 30 or Texas 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale next spring. Scott Wells to Retire from Remington and Lone Star

Remington Park and Lone Star Park president and general manager Scott Wells will retire from his position this fall. Wells was on staff at Remington Park for three years beginning in 1990 soon after the OKC track first opened for live racing in 1988. Wells returned to Remington to his present position in 2005 and has directed operations at the track since then. He assumed the role of president and general manager at Lone Star Park in 2013. A record of nearly 250 yearlings have been cataloged for the 2021 Texas Summer Yearling and Horses of Racing Age sale to be held Monday, Aug. 30, at Lone Star Park outside of Dallas. Lone Star Handle Biggest In 15 Years

The 25th season of Thoroughbred racing at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie just outside of Dallas concluded July 11 with handle figures their largest since 2006. The figures do not include last year's pandemic season. Daily merged (i.e. live, on-track plus export) handle totaled $1,693,866 for the 48-day meet, while a daily average of $1,459,096 in export handle. Lone Star Overnight Purses Increasing

Officials at Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie have announced that all overnight purses will be raised across the board by 20%, beginning with Friday's live racing program. Purses that ranged from $12,000 for bottom-level claimers to $39,000 for open allowance races will now carry prize money between $14,400 and $46,800. The Thoroughbred meeting at Lone Star Park continues through Sunday, July 11.
