First Foal for Mr. Money

Five-time graded stakes winner Mr. Money (Goldencents--Plenty O'Toole, by Tiznow) was represented by his first foal when Road to Riches (Quality Road) produced a filly Jan. 20. The foal is the first out of the unraced mare. "We're excited to see Mr. Money's first foals," said Brent Fernung of Journeyman Stud, which stands the 6-year-old stallion. "Mr. Money is a handsome horse and I fully expect that he'll pass that along to his foals. With his talent and pedigree, we're anticipating great things from Mr. Money's progeny." Campaigned by Allied...

By My Standards Probable For Clark Following Friday Breeze

By My Standards (Goldencents) worked a half-mile in :49.40 (42/67) at Churchill Downs Friday morning and is a probable starter for next Friday's GI Clark H., trainer Bret Calhoun told the Churchill press office via text. Owned by Chester Thomas's Allied Racing Stable, the 4-year-old was a non-factor eighth in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland Nov. 7, but prior to that posted a facile 1 3/4-length victory in the GII Alysheba S. beneath the Twin Spires Sept. 4. He defeated Owendale (Into Mischief) on that occasion and that...

The colt put up splits of :12.40 and :24.40 and galloped out in 1:02.80. "He's continuing to do well," Steve Asmussen, who has taken over training duties from Linda Rice, said. Letter to the Editor: Chester Thomas

The past two years Allied Racing LLC has achieved our dreams of competing at horse racing's top level, headed by my first multiple graded-stakes winner and Kentucky Derby runner By My Standards and multiple graded winner Mr. Money. I'd hoped it was just the start of being in the top ranks of the sport we love dearly. But even as my wife and I ride this incredible wave, we plan to significantly downsize our stable. Why? Because of the movement to phase out the medication Lasix, a diuretic also used...

Mischief Currency Converting to Golden Standards

All that glisters is not gold. Certainly we shouldn't get too carried away: Goldencents has been launched by mares in such volume that there would be something badly amiss if he didn't come up with the occasional smart racehorse. In fact, a suitably brisk start made by his first juveniles in 2018 saw him entertain a staggering 239 mares last spring. That put him in the company of seven other stallions in the 200 club (five at Ashford, the other two alongside Goldencents at Spendthrift) and onto an aggregate 929...

Positive CBD Test Results in Suspension, Fine for Calhoun

A positive test for the Class B substance cannabidiol (CBD) in a filly who broke her maiden last summer at Ellis Park has resulted in a 30-day suspension and $500 fine for trainer W. Bret Calhoun. Citing mitigating circumstances ("number of violations in relation to overall record"), the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) wrote in an Apr. 14 ruling that Calhoun would only have to serve ten days of his penalty between Apr. 14 and 23. The remainder of his suspension will be stayed "on the condition that no Class...

BY MY STANDARDS (c, 4, Goldencents--A Jealous Woman {MSW & GSP, $469,956}, by Muqtarib), a maiden winner over this track and trip last February, earned a ticket to the GI Kentucky Derby with a next-out victory in the Mar. 23 GII Louisiana Derby, but had been missing since a troubled 12th-place effort in the big dance last May. Sent off the 1-2 favorite, the bay colt shadowed pacesetting Two Emmys (English Channel) through fractions of :24.64, :49.29,...
