Sather Family homebred Mylady Curlin (Curlin) had a five-race winning streak snapped by Go Google Yourself (Into Mischief) in Churchill's GIII Locust Grove S. back in September, but she exacted her revenge Thursday beneath the Twin Spires, besting that rival by a convincing 2 1/4 lengths in the GII Falls City H.
Mid-division passing under the line for the first time as New York raider Ratajkowski (Drosselmeyer) led at a decent clip from Go Google Yourself, Mylady Curlin was guided out into the clear in the three path and improved into fourth through the middle stages. Ratajkowski was a spent force soon after heads were turned for home and Go Google Yourself looked to be the chief beneficiary, but Mylady Curlin was able to sustain a three-wide bid from three-eighths out and drove clear in the final 100 yards. Canadian champion Moonlit Garden (Malibu Moon) sat an inside-out trip and outfinished Ratajkowski for third.
“Being from Louisville, it's really fun winning a race like this on Thanksgiving,” said trainer Brad Cox. “The extra distance seemed to be the key this afternoon. Both of our horses ran great today. Moonlit Garden was solid finishing third and we're very proud of both of them.”
Mylady Curlin's aforementioned winning skein stretched back to Oaklawn in March and included victories in the GIII Allaire du Pont Distaff at Pimlico in May, the Mari Hulman George S. at Indiana Grand in July and the Lady Jacqueline S. at Thistledown the following month. Late on the scene when third in the Locust Grove, she most recently completed a Curlin exacta underneath Sally's Curlin in the one-mile GIII Chilukki S. Nov. 2.
Pedigree Notes:
Produced by a full-sister to Grade III winner I'madrifter, Mylady Curlin has a yearling half-brother by Latent Heat and a foal half-brother by Noble Mission (GB). Ladyledue paid another visit to that sire this season.
