Markus Jooste's Mayfair Speculators was busy during the opening session of the two-day Cape Thoroughbred Sales March Sale in Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday, picking up the three most expensive yearlings. Topping the list was a R400,000 ($31,443) son of What A Winter consigned by Normandy Stud. A pair of fillies followed: a daughter of Gimmethegreenlight (SAf) for R300,000 ($23,582), and a daughter of Twice Over (GB) for R280,000 ($22,010).
A total of R6,445,000 was spent on 99 yearlings on day one, with the average finishing at R82,628, and the median R57,500.
