Zoffany's Afandem Gains Ridgway Verdict

    Afandem posted 9 1/2-furlong tallies at Deauville Oct. 17 and at Chantilly on sophomore return Mar. 10, and registered a career high in this turf bow after an enforced absence. Settled third for most of this initial try at stakes level, he loomed large on the bit to challenge passing the quarter-mile marker and was ridden out in the closing stages to gain a narrow verdict. “He was scratched on the morning of the [Apr. 9 G3] Prix la Force [at Chantilly] as he was among Jean-Claude Roget's band of sick horses,” explained racing manager Rupert Pritchard Gordon. “He returned today after that extended break so it is most satisfying to see that he can perform at such level and remain undefeated. We will see what's next for him, but the [July 16 G2] Prix Eugene Adam [at Maisons-Laffitte] is a likely option.”
