'X Press' Train to the Saratoga Winner's Circle

March X Press | Sarah Andrew

March X Press, a visually impressive last-to-first narrow debut winner sprinting over the Saratoga lawn versus New York-breds Aug. 2, delivered in impressive fashion once again in this first stakes attempt against open company. Off to a tardy beginning here, she raced in sixth entering the far turn through an opening quarter in a sharp :21.79. The dark bay was stymied in traffic and bumped between rivals beneath Jose Ortiz in midstretch, but powered through nicely, showcasing a nice turn of foot once clear to win going away.

“There was a moment there where things got a little crowded and she showed a lot of bravery on her second start to push her way through there,” winning trainer Todd Pletcher said. “She has an explosive turn of foot in that last part. She had to push her way through a little bit, and for a lightly raced filly to do that, it is impressive. I think maybe something like the [GI] Natalma [Sept. 17 at Woodbine] going a one-turn mile is something that might make sense for her.”

The winner's dam is also represented by an Into Mischief colt of 2016 and a Tiznow colt of this year. She was bred back to Honor Code.
