Jockey Cornelio Velasquez, who has finished among this country's top 25 leading jockeys by earnings each year since 2002, will shift his tack from the New York circuit and will begin riding full time in South Florida beginning June 1. His business will be handled by agent Kevin Meyocks.

“With year-round racing taking off at Gulfstream Park, I want to be part of that excitement and I look forward to riding there full time,” Velasquez told the Gulfstream press office.

A five-time champion in New York, Velasquez has won five Breeders' Cup races, was runner-up aboard Closing Argument (Successful Appeal) in the 2005 GI Kentucky Derby and had won 3,753 races heading into Thursday, according to Equibase statistics. His mounts have earned better than $165 million.

Currently eighth in the jockeys' standings at Belmont Park, Velasquez has three graded-stakes wins to his credit this season, including the GI Carter H. aboard Salutos Amigos (Salute the Sarge).
