'Vega' Snapped Up for Everest Slot

Vega Magic | Browen Healy

Wally and George Daly's MG1SW Vega Magic (Aus) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), winner of the G3 Bletchingly S. at Caulfield on Saturday, has been secured by James Harron for his James Harron Bloodstock's slot in the A$13-million The Everest at Royal Randwick on Oct. 13. Harron was successful in the inaugural version of the 1200-metre with Redzel (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) in 2017.

“We have been biding our time, waiting to secure a horse with the credentials to win the race and importantly to see that they have returned in top form,” said Harron of the inaugural The Everest runner-up. “Vega Magic was favourite for the race last year when running a great second and his return in the Bletchingly S. yesterday was that of a top-class sprinter at the top of his game. We are delighted to secure him to run in our slot, which is owned by Belinda Bateman, Fergus and Delia Doyle, Phil and Glenda Mehrten, Donna and Rob Love, John and Fran Ingham, Danny and Pauline Saab and Gary Diamond.”

Trained by David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Vega Magic claimed the G1 Goodwood S. and G1 Memsie S. last spring. He was also a length behind the aforementioned Redzel, who will race for Yulong Investments in this year's edition of The Everest.

Added Harron, “Credit to Wally and George for breeding such an outstanding sprinter, and to David Hayes and his team at Lindsay Park for getting this horse right back to his best yesterday–we are tremendously excited to team up with them as we attempt to scale The Everest once more.”
