Valadorna Returns a Winner at Fair Grounds

5th-FG, $43,000, Alw (NW1X)/Opt. Clm ($50,000), 1-27, 3yo, f, 1m 70y, 1:43.42, ft.

VALADORNA (f, 3, Curlin">Curlin–Goldfield, by Yes It's True) earned “TDN Rising Star” status after an ultra impressive six-length graduation at second asking at Keeneland Oct. 7 and made a bold late run to be second behind longshot and now champion Champagne Room (Broken Vow) in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies when last seen Nov. 5. Hammered down to 1-9 favoritism, the homebred was away well from her rail draw and caboosed the quintet early as What What What (Archarcharch) ticked off opening splits of :24.04 and :48.51. Still last at the top of the lane, the bay came storming down the center of the track to swiftly inhale the field and roll clear to a half-length success. The pacesetter hung on for second. Valadorna's unraced dam produced a now 2-year-old colt by Ghostzapper, who summoned $125,000 at Keeneland September, and a yearling colt by Maclean's Music. She was bred back to Astrology. Lifetime Record: GISP, 4-2-2-0, $410,400. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
