Uncontested Has Final Southwest Prep

Smarty Jones S. winner Uncontested (Tiz Wonderful) completed his preparations for Monday's GIII Southwest S. at Oaklawn with a half-mile move in :51 flat (10/11) Tuesday morning in Hot Springs. The Wayne Catalano pupil completed his final quarter-mile in :24 and galloped out five furlongs in 1:04.40.

“A lot of trainers do things different ways,” said Harry Rosenblum, who owns Uncontested in partnership with Robert LaPenta. “And, what he basically did was he two-minute licked him a mile and let him finish the last half and he did the last quarter in :24. So it really wasn't a half-mile work–as was posted–but that's what they caught him, the last half-mile. It was really a two-minute lick of a mile.”

Smarty Jones runner-up Petrov (Flatter) put in his final breeze prior to the Southwest Monday, completing five furlongs in 1:00 (2/10) at Oaklawn. The Rialto Racing Stables and Southern Spring Stables colorbearer completed his final quarter in :22.80 and galloped out six panels in 1:13.

“I'm proud of where we're at,” co-owner/trainer Ron Moquett said. “I'm ready to see what happens.”
