Thrilled Captures Sunland's Plum Pretty

Thrilled | Coady Photo

Thrilled outslugged narrow second choice Family Tree to the wire, then survived a claim of foul to become the latest black-type winner for her champion freshman sire. The homebred made the first four starts of her career on the grass, breaking her maiden at first asking at Saratoga in August before finishing runner-up in the P.G. Johnson S. and the GIII Miss Grillo S. the next month. Never a menace when 11th to Catch a Glimpse (City Zip) in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf Oct. 30, the bay was last seen filling out the exacta beneath Lewis Bay (Bernardini) in the GII Tempted S. at Aqueduct Nov. 28. Family Tree, having her first run for the Bob Baffert barn, jumped best and took command, but Thrilled and Javier Castellano were never going to let her sneak too far away. The duo raced on more or less even terms into the final eighth of a mile, at which point Thrilled looked to come over slightly on Family Tree. She edged away late to score by daylight and was allowed to retain the victory. Produced by a GIII Virginia Oaks winner whose dam was a full-sister to GI Breeders' Cup Distaff upsetter Spain, Thrilled is a half-sister to a yearling colt by champion Shanghai Bobby. Excited was bred to Verrazano in 2015. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
