The esteemed Shanghai Entrepreneur Association (SEA) has recognized the innovation and leadership of Teo Ah Khing by awarding him its Special Contribution Award for his service to the nation's emerging Thoroughbred industry at its Third Members' Congress in Shanghai, China this week.

The Chairman of the China Horse Club was singled out in front of more than 400 members and guests for his vision in positioning the Thoroughbred industry as a tool to drive green industry, as a creator of jobs in rural sectors and as a vehicle for international trade relations. He was also acknowledged for the creation of the China Horse Club (CHC), which has been independently ranked among the world's top 10 owners and for launching and fostering the China Equine Cultural Festival (CECF)–an event that promotes Chinese horse culture as well as the commercial development of China's domestic Thoroughbred industry without betting.

Among those in attendance were the SEA's President, Mr Zheng Yonggang (Chairman of the Board of Shan Shan Corporation); Professor Wang Xinkui (renowned economist, member of the National Committee of the CPPCC Standing Committee, Chairman and President of the Shanghai World Trade Organization Affairs Consultation Centre); Mr Wang Zhixiong (Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce); and Madam Yang Qian (Secretary General of the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce).

“The equine industry, as a sporting business, is an effective and efficient way to help transform industrial cities to eco-friendly cities of the future. As a brand developed in China, CHC vows to walk its talk and to build a trustworthy Chinese brand that promotes this virtue both locally and internationally,” Mr Teo said upon receiving his award. “As an important member of World Trade Organization (WTO), China has contributed enormously to global trading and to the world economy and it is hoped that the horse industry can become a bridge for the exchange of goods, services and knowledge between super powers like the United States and China. Right now China is the largest market with the greatest potential in the world and the international equine industry has been shifting its focus to China.”

“Thanks to the authorities of Ordos City and Ejin Horo Banner, investments related to horse racing and horse breeding have been leading its transformation to becoming a city with green industry, sport industry and cultural tourism,” he added. “This is the direction of our work and we will draw together the collective efforts of all members to realize the dream of China becoming a strong and prosperous equine industry.”

SEA has more than 1,000 members and draws together leaders of industry from a wide range of fields and private business. The SEA has publicly supported China's 'One Belt, One Road' initiative with its members proactively working to support this initiative which drives international trade relations. It has collaborative agreements with an international network including Chambers of Commerce in Britain, Canada, Russia, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand among others.
