Sweeping Paddy Becomes First Graded Winner for Paddy O'Prado

Sweeping Paddy | Coady

Sweeping Paddy became the first graded stakes winner for her sire (by El Prado {Ire}) with a powerful victory in Churchill's GIII Regret S.

Tracking from third through moderate early splits of :23.30 and :47.04, the homebred ranged up three wide turning for home and uncorked an impressive turn of foot to inhale her rivals and charge clear to a dominant victory. Fellow “TDN Rising Star” Proctor's Ledge (Ghostzapper) got up for second.

Tabbed a Rising Star off a 12 1/4-length tour de force at Kentucky Downs last September, Sweeping Paddy checked in second in a Keeneland allowance Apr. 7 and was third behind Royal Ascot bound La Coronel (Colonel John) last time in this venue's GIII Edgewood S. May 5. The winner is a full-sister to last term's GI Preakness S. runner-up and 'TDN Rising Star' Cherry Wine.

Pedigree Notes:

Winning conditioner Dale Romans trained Sweeping Paddy's GISW sire Paddy O'Prado, as well as her dam C. S. Royce, who he purchased for $180,000 as a yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September sale. He also trains her “TDN Rising Star” full-brother Cherry Wine, who earned his Rising Star tag after an ultra-impressive allowance victory on the dirt at Gulfstream this winter. The gray, who is the first foal out of C. S. Royce, was third to stablemate Brody's Cause (Giant's Causeway) in the GI Toyota Blue Grass S. and second behind Exaggerator (Curlin) in the GI Preakness S. C. S. Royce produced a Take Charge Indy filly in 2015 and foaled a colt by Point of Entry Apr. 27 of last year. She was bred back to Giant's Causeway.
