Standing Set For Run To The Rose

Saturday's G2 Run To The Rose S., Rosehill's local prep for the A$1-million G1 Golden Rose S. Sept. 10, has drawn a strong lineup of potential 3-year-old stars, including dead-heat G3 Kindergarten S. winners Astern (Aus) (Medaglia d'Oro) and El Divino (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}); G3 San Domenico S. winner Star Turn (Aus) (Star Witness {NZ}); and the talented Mediterranean (Aus) (Smart Missile {Aus}).

Also not to be overlooked is Gooree Stud's G2 Skyline S. winner Good Standing (Aus) (Artie Schiller). The bay has placed in a pair of trials entering this test, and trainer James Cummings said he thinks his charge can stand up to the best of them.

“He's stronger but he's also much more mature so I'd like to think that will transpire into his racing,” Cummings said. “He's come back well and he's trialled up strongly for the race. The horse is in very good shape. On Saturday you're going to get your best guide on him once he gets put under pressure.”

Cummings said he expects Good Standing to handle a heavy surface, and pointed to the colt's versatility as an asset he'll need to use from barrier 10 under Glyn Schofield.

“I think he'll be quite okay,” Cummings said. “He's won a barrier trial on a heavy track before his debut so I wouldn't be too worried about that. There are plenty of talented horses that have natural speed in this race so we'll have time to think about how we'll ride him, but this horse is so versatile.”
