Songbird Settling In at Saratoga

Fox Hill Farms' undefeated 'TDN Rising Star' and reigning champion juvenile filly Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) arrived at Saratoga Race Course Wednesday evening shortly after 8:00 p.m. ET in advance of her start in Saturday's GI Coaching Club American Oaks. The Jerry Hollendorfer trainee's flight landed at Albany International Airport just after 6:00 and she quickly settled into her stall, momentarily posing for photographs after arriving to the track via van.

All signs Thursday morning indicated that the dark bay is adapting well to her new surroundings, according to Rick Porter of Fox Hill Farms.

“She ate up [Thursday] morning and she was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed,” said Porter. “After talking to Jerry, they decided to take her out and give her one lap around the track. She went with the pony and jogged for a mile and an eighth. She wasn't too happy to go back to the barn, she probably wanted to do a little more. She's doing fantastic considering all the travel she's had.”

Hollendorfer arrived in Saratoga Thursday. A four-time Grade I winner, Songbird has won each of her eight starts and most recently captured the GII Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita June 18. Songbird is set to take on four rivals in the CCA Oaks, including fellow 'TDN Rising Star' Carina Mia (Malibu Moon) and GI Ashland S. winner Weep No More (Mineshaft).
