Siyouni's Trixia Captures the Lieurey

Not seen since finishing fourth on her seasonal bow in the G3 Prix de la Grotte over a mile at Chantilly Apr. 20, last year's G3 Prix des Reservoirs winner Trixia made up for lost time with a late show under a typically cool Olivier Peslier to land this competitive renewal. Unbeaten at two via the tests of the Listed Criterium de Lyon at Lyon-Parilly in September and Deauville's Prix des Reservoirs in October both over a mile, she had the likes of the subsequent G1 Prix Saint-Alary winner Jemayel (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and G1 1000 Guineas fourth Fireglow (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) behind on the latter occasion to add gravity to her reputation. After finishing only fourth as the favourite on her return in the Grotte, the bay was reported ill by Alain de Royer-Dupre and it remained to be seen whether he could nurse her back in time for some of the major prizes of late summer and the autumn. Settled towards the rear early by Olivier Peslier, she was delivered between rivals in mid-straight and her run proved timely as she appeared yards before the line to once again deny Chartreuse, who had finished behind her twice previously.

“She was very sick after the Grotte and even a month ago, I was not certain she would make it so to see her win like she did was most satisfactory and encouraging,” her trainer said. “She is in the [G1 Prix du] Moulin [at Chantilly Sept. 11] and the [G1] Sun Chariot [S. at Newmarket Oct. 1], so we'll see how she comes out of this one and decide.” Trixia represents a formidable start in the paddocks for her useful dam, who also has a yearling son of Rio de la Plata named Teston (Fr). Her fourth dam, the Canadian champion Queen Louie (Crimson Satan), boasts several talented descendants including the sire Gold Meridian and GII Mrs. Revere S. scorer Megans Bluff (Pine Bluff), who went on to produce the GIII Pilgrim S.-winning sire Elusive Bluff.
