Over the course of the first two sessions of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Lexington, Coolmore's M. V. Magnier had signed for three horses, two of them by Scat Daddy, who died prematurely at the tail end of 2015. With just two crops remaining to go through public auctions, Magnier went to $3-million Wednesday afternoon for arguably the best-bred member of any crop of Scat Daddy, a half-brother to three-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder (Henny Hughes) and from the Storm Cat sire line that has been so rewarding to breeder Clarkland Farm. In addition to the Spendthrift supermare, hip 454 is a half-brother to Spendthrift stallion Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday) and to the dam of SW & GSP Harry's Holiday (Harlan's Holiday). Clarkland acquired the dam of hip 454, Leslie's Lady (Tricky Creek), for $100,000 in foal to Orientate at the Keeneland November Sale a decade ago.
