Saratoga Stakes Schedule Announced

The 2018 meet at historic Saratoga Race Course will again be highlighted by the GI Whitney S. and the GI Travers S., the centerpieces of two of the biggest days in North American racing.

The 40-day meet, which includes 69 stakes races worth $18.8 million in purses, will be held between Friday, July 20 and Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. After opening weekend, racing will be conducted six days a week, Wednesdays through Mondays.

On Saturday, Aug. 4, the Whitney will be paired with the GI Longines Test S. Whitney Day will also include a trio of grass stakes. Joining the 149th running of the Mid-Summer Derby Saturday, Aug. 25 will be five other Grade I stakes: the Sword Dancer Invitational, Ballerina S., Forego S., H. Allen Jerkens Memorial S., and Personal Ensign S.

The traditional local prep for the Travers, the GII Jim Dandy S., will be held Saturday, July 28, and will be joined by the GI Alfred G. Vanderbilt H., GII Bowling Green S., and GIII Amsterdam S.. Grade I action commences with the Diana S. Saturday, July 21, and Coaching Club American Oaks Sunday, July 22. Other Grade I races on the calendar include the Fourstardave H. Saturday, Aug. 11; Alabama S. Saturday, Aug. 18; Woodward S. Saturday, Sept. 1, Spinaway S. Saturday Sept. 1; and Hopeful S. Monday, Sept. 3.
