'Rising Star' Looks to Stay the Trip in A-W Futurity

Wellabled | NYRA/Chelsea Durand

Speedy 'TDN Rising Star' Wellabled (Shackleford) will attempt to see out seven panels as he faces as many as 11 rivals in Saturday's GIII Arlington-Washington Futurity. A 7 1/2-length first-out winner going five furlongs over the local strip July 9, the bay nearly went box-to-wire in Saratoga's grassy Skidmore S. Aug. 19, but swapped over to his wrong lead late and got nipped by a head. He'll have to stretch out an additional furlong and a half, but sports a pair of strong works over the surface since his last outing and will be reunited with veteran E. T. Baird, who was aboard for the debut. Romeo O Romeo (Macho Uno) boasts a best last-out Beyer Speed Figure of 71 for a professional debut success here Aug. 21. Seven Forty Seven (Tiz Wonderful) was the definition of “steam horse” when he shipped in from here to the Spa for his first start Aug. 20. Backed down to 7-5 off tons of buzz, he acted up badly in the post parade, chased the pace wide and checked in a distant fifth. If he's able to figure it out back at his home base, he might just show what all the fuss was about.
