Pure Silver Romps in Adirondack to Become Mission Impazible's First Graded Winner

Pure Silver | Chelsea Durand

Pure Silver shook off heavy pace pressure and ran away in the stretch to remain unbeaten and dominate the GII Adirondack S. at Saratoga, becoming the first graded stakes winner for her sophomore sire (by Unbridled's Song).

Graduating on debut against New York-breds June 22 at Belmont, she repeated in the six-furlong Empire-bred Lynbrook S. there July 16 and was favored to make it three-for-three in this first try versus open company.

Away slowly from her rail draw after tossing her head at the start, the gray rushed up and dueled through an opening quarter in :22.44 and saw another challenge almost immediately after the first presser dropped away. Under siege at the top of the lane, she shrugged off all bids and went clear by the eighth pole, finishing full of run to romp by daylight.

“She won pretty convincingly,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “She's pretty fast. She didn't actually get away quite as easily as she normally does, but she made up for it quickly and got to the lead the right way. She kind of ran them off their feet from there. It's been a hard track sometimes to make up a lot of ground on. We knew that this filly was naturally fast and we were going to let her do her thing.”

On targeting Saratoga's GI Spinaway S. Sept. 2, Pletcher added, “I think we'll certainly take a look at it. She's a filly who has carried her condition really well. Now having run three times, she looks fantastic.”

Pure Silver was listed by bloodstock agent and popular TVG analyst Nick Hines as his “Buy of the Day” at this year's OBS March Sale in the Mar. 16 edition of TDN.

Pedigree Notes:

Pure Silver's stakes-winning dam Jehan, picked up by Randy Gullatt and Steve Davison's Twin Creeks Farm as a broodmare prospect for $150,000 at the 2012 FTKFEB Sale, had a colt by Mission Impazible in 2016 and a filly by Graydar earlier this year. She was bred back to Graydar. Twin Creeks, of course, also raced Pure Silver's sophomore sire Mission Impazible, winner of the 2010 GII Louisiana Derby and a three-time Grade I runner-up.
