PROMISES FULFILLED (c, 2, Shackleford–Marquee Delivery {MGSP, $264,901}, by Marquetry) went box-to-wire to graduate by four lengths in his Churchill Downs unveiling Sept. 17 and prepped for this first try against winners with a best-of-28 five furlongs in :59 4/5 in Louisville Oct. 10. Seizing the early advantage again this time, the 2-1 shot clicked off opening splits of :22.63 and :45.44 with Smart Remark (First Defence) just off his heels. Those two were well clear of the rest of the field approaching the far turn and it was a match race down the stretch, but Promises Fulfilled kept on finding to hold Smart Remark at bay by a head. The winner is a half-brother to Marquee Miss (Cowboy Cal), MSW & GSP, $298,909; and Marquee Cal Gal (Cowboy Cal), SP, $244,350.
