Pricey City Zip Colt Guts Out Debut Score at Churchill

City Zip | Lane's End

5th-CD, $41,814, Msw, 9-30, 2yo, 5 1/2f, 1:04.56, wf.
+FLOROPLUS (c, 2, City Zip–Cap's Legacy, by Stroll) took all the money in this debut and rewarded his backers with a game victory at Churchill. Coming in off of a strong series of local breezes, including a best-of-80 half-mile in :46 2/5 Sept. 25, the bay was backed down to 4-5 and broke alertly from the outside stall. Tracking the pace of Dilettante (Unbridled's Song) through a moderate :22.43 quarter-mile, the favorite moved to tackle that one passing the five-sixteenths pole. Encountering a stiff challenge from the pacesetter, Floroplus got hooked in a long stretch battle, but started to do slightly better inside the sixteenth pole and grinded out a neck victory. Fellow firster Glacier (Broken Vow), the $1.2-million topper at OBS April, never factored. The winner was a $40,000 KEESEP yearling who sold for $585,000, the second highest-priced City Zip to sell so far this year, at OBS March after breezing one furlong in a co-bullet :9 3/5. His dam is a half to Bright Feather (Fappiano), the stakes-placed dam of GISW Albert the Great (Go for Gin). Second dam, MSW In My Cap (Vice Regent), is a full-sister to GISW Trumpet's Blare and GSW/GISP Passing Vice. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $25,800.
