STEELY RESOLVE (g, 3, Candy Ride (Arg)&log=">Candy Ride {Arg}–Fencelineneighbor {GSW, $612,588}, by Wild Rush), an $875,000 OBS April buy in 2016, made his belated debut a winning one, rallying from off a strong pace to graduate going away at Del Mar. Showing an upbeat and stamina-building worktab at San Luis Rey, capped by a five-furlong move in 1:00 4/5 (3/18) Oct. 24, the bay was a bit chilly in the early wagering, but received all the late support to break as the 21-10 chalk. Sitting fifth as Sigur Ros (Gemologist) showed the way through a swift :21.72 quarter, Steely Resolve started to get going three wide midway around the turn and arrived at the head of the stretch as the main danger. Sidling up to the frontrunner at the furlong grounds, he surged past outside the sixteenth marker and edged clear from there to a 2 1/4-length success. Sigur Ros did well to hold for place money. The winner, a $280,000 Keeneland September yearling, went for the second-highest lot at OBSAPR after breezing one furlong in :10 flat. He is a half to Barbie Wire (Tapit), SW, $108,044; and Nextdoorneighbor (Lido Palace {Chi}), GSP, $370,334. His dam is responsible for a juvenile Tapit filly named Tactical Affair who sold to Phipps Stable for $430,000 at KEESEP and a yearling filly by the Gainesway resident who went for $300,000 at the same sale to Hades Bloodstock. She was bred to Empire Maker this season. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $31,200. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
